Language Requirement

1. One of the most crucial prerequisites for eligibility for a UK skilled worker visa is a solid command of the English language. The applicant must receive 10 out of the required 70 points for a skilled worker visa for English language proficiency at level B1 (or higher) of the Common European Framework of References for the English language in all four components, i.e., reading, writing, speaking, and listening. 

The candidate shall meet the English language requirement if any of the following applies

A. To prove the bachelor’s/ master’s/ doctorate received in the UK; the following can 

     be provided:

  • A certificate from the awarding body; or 
  • A transcript issued by the university or college that awarded the qualification; or 
  • An official letter from the university or college that awarded the qualification containing information equivalent to a degree certificate.

B.  Any degree or degree-level qualification that is taught in a university or college in the UK, Ireland  or any majority-English-speaking country that meets the recognised standard of a bachelor’s/ master’s/ doctorate which is awarded in the UK. This degree equivalence shall be evaluated by ECCTIS. 

 

C.  Any degree or degree-level qualification which meets the recognised standards of the above- mentioned UK degree, and which was taught/researched in English entirely. ECCTIS, in such a case, evaluates both degree equivalence and language level.      

3. The applicant has a GCSE, A level, Scottish National Qualification at level 4 or level 5 / Scottish Higher or Advanced Higher certificate awarded in English language or literature which was awarded by: 

 

  • By an Ofqual (or SQA, Qualifications Wales or CCEA) regulated awarding body; and 
  • Following education undertaken under the age 18 in a UK-based school. 

4. The applicant is sponsored to work as a doctor, dentist, nurse, midwife, or veterinarian, subject to passing the English assessment which is accepted by the relevant regulated professional body for registration. 

 

5. The applicant has already met the prerequisites at the required level for their current application in  heir successfully submitted past application for entry clearance or permission to stay.
